Penguin Landing
Phillip Island, a famous destination in Australia, has become a popular
tourist spot due to the spectacular phenomenon of penguin landings.
The penguins in question are a rare species known as fairy penguins.
They are small and charming, and people find them adorable. Although
their wings have become small and non-functional, preventing them from
flying in the sky, they can swiftly navigate through water using their
wings, making them excellent swimmers. When walking, fairy penguins
waddle from side to side, and with their clean white chests and dark
gray or black backs and heads, they resemble gentlemen dressed in
tuxedos!
As the sun sets and dusk arrives, the beach is filled with a multitude
of people. They form two rows, leaving the center for the beach. Several
lights are installed along the shore. A large sign by the shore reads:
"Penguin landing time: 8:05 PM." People frequently check their watches,
waiting for 8:05 PM. Sure enough, the first fairy penguin appears amidst
the crashing waves. It's as if they timed it perfectly! The "leader" is
the first to swim towards the shore. After scanning the beach, the
leader confidently leads the group, waddling in an orderly manner. The
leader stands at the front, while around fifty team members follow in
three columns, perfectly aligned like well-trained soldiers. Once the
formation is set, the leader gives a commanding "quack," and the entire
team marches towards the sand dunes. As the first group lands, the
second group quickly follows...
The night grows late, yet people are reluctant to leave. They marvel at
the sight of one penguin group after another landing in this place.
Overnight, an astonishing number of two thousand penguins have arrived. |

In terms of appearance, Fairy Penguins are small and
cute. They have short, degenerated wings and a clean white breast, along
with a deep gray or black back and head, resembling a gentleman in a
tuxedo. In terms of behavior, Fairy Penguins swim very fast but wobble
when walking. |

The author uses a metaphorical approach to describe the
scene of the Fairy Penguin landing. They metaphorically describe them as
a well-trained soldier. The penguins are led by a "commander" who swims
to the shore first, followed by the "troops." Once on land, the
"commander" stands at the front, while the other fifty members form
three columns. Upon the command of the "commander," the whole team
marches in formation, heading straight for the sand dunes. |
