Vinnie was a member of the school's football team. Last Tuesday, her school had
a friendly match against another school. It was a grueling match as both teams
were equally skilled. Many of Vinnie's schoolmates were at the stadium to lend
the team their support. They had banners, pom-poms and the school flag. It was
very encouraging for the team to see so many supporters. At one point of the
match, Vinnie had the ball. She was dribbling it towards the goal when suddenly,
she was tackled by a member of the other team. She tripped and fell. A spasm of
pain shot up her leg and she cried out in agony. Immediately, she was taken off
the field. It turned out that she had fractured her shinbone.
As a result of that match, Vinnie's leg was in a cast. She had to be pushed
around in a wheelchair for the next three weeks. Initially, Vinnie was
unaccustomed to the wheelchair. She was normally such an active person and yet
now, she felt so incapacitated. in school, the situation was even more
troublesome. Vinnie's classroom was on the third floor. However, due to her
temporary immobility, the school principal had granted special approval for her
class to shift to the ground floor until her leg had healed.
Despite this, there were still several
classes that simply could not accommodate such a move. For Vinnie's music class,
the lesson still had to be carried out in the second-floor music room because
the piano was in there. Whenever their Science lessons required them to conduct
experiments, the class still had to go to the science laboratories on the third
floor. Hence for lessons like these, Vinnie would have to wheel herself to the
stairs, then make use of a pair of crutches to ascend the stairs slowly and
carefully. Thankfully, she had wonderful classmates who were ready to help
whenever needed. They would help to carry her books and her bag or they would
support her as she made her way up the stairs.
Soon, Vinnie's leg healed completely and the class was shifted back up to the
third floor. However, Vinnie never forgot the kindness of her classmates.
Vinnie's parents invited them all to their house and treated them to pizza as a
way of showing their appreciation. Vinnie felt very fortunate to have such
amazing friends. |
