Read the passage carefully. Then choose the correct answer.

Choosing a new car is always about weighing your options. You have to consider your budget, the purpose of buying one, the type and the features. There are many different types of cars available and this may confuse you as to which to buy. One of the latest types of car is the hybrid car which is referred to as the 'car of the era'. There are many unique features that make the hybrid car different from the conventional car. Because of its uniqueness, the hybrid car is now growing in popularity. Many people are considering getting rid of their conventional car in favour of a hybrid car due to its several advantages.

The main advantage is fuel consumption. Hybrid cars consume fuel efficiently because it has two engines. It has a traditional petrol engine and an electric motor and batteries. They work together to cut down on fuel consumption. The combination of these two engines allows a hybrid car to save about 30 miles a gallon. It saves fuel because the petrol engine will automatically shut off when the car stops and it will only turn on when you step on the accelerator pedal. So the rising price of fuel will not affect you much if you are driving a hybrid car.

Since the hybrid car uses petrol and batteries as its sources of power, it uses less petrol than the conventional car. Therefore hybrid cars emit lower toxic emissions as compared to conventional petrol-powered cars since less gasoline is being burned. So, it causes less pollution and as less carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere. It is very important for you to know that for every kilometre you drive a conventional car, carbon dioxide is released into the air building up greenhouse gasses which contribute to air pollution. So by driving a hybrid vehicle, you will reduce the emission of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

However, side by side with the advantages are drawbacks. One is its price. Hybrid cars are more expensive than conventional cars because of the price of the expensive battery installed in the car. The battery may last for several years but to replace it will cost you several thousand ringgit which is equivalent to buying a used car. Thus hybrid cars are only for those who can afford them.

In short, the benefits of the hybrid car are that it consumes less petrol and protects the environment. However, it is more expensive than the conventional car. Thus hybrid car producers should now work to reduce the cost of production to make it affordable to everyone. If everybody drives a hybrid car, we will have a greener earth.
