Rosli was jubilant when he was
declared the champion orchid grower in an international competition held
recently. He has been growing orchids for the past twenty years. However, it
was the first time he had taken part in a competition. It was indeed
first-time lucky for him. He won $3000 and a certificate. Excited over the
win, he planned to give his family members a big treat.

In correspondence education, the
adult students have to follow a planned schedule and program as far as
possible. They have to submit their assignments for marking by experienced
tutors who will offer comments and suggestions for improvement. Very often
the courses they take are in line with their profession.

The rapid increase in population
in major cities in the world has resulted in a number of social and
environmental problems. The high rate of growth is due mainly to migration
rather than natural increase. Most of the migrants are from rural areas and
smaller towns. they come to the cities to look for jobs. Many of them also
come to the cities to further their studies. as a city grows, the need for
lousing and public amenities also increase, resulting in various social and
environmental problems.

Due to rapid increase in
population in the cities, there are not enough houses. In actual fact, most
of the migrants cannot afford to buy or even rent a house. The lucky ones
may live with friends and relatives. Many of them resort to staying in
squatter areas which may lack the basic amenities like water and
electricity. Diseases are widespread and so are crimes.

Traffic offenders come from all
walks of life. They include teenagers, lorry drivers, professionals and even
ladies and senior citizens. Many of them are indifferent, impatient,
inconsiderate or immune to the traffic penalties which appear to be too
lenient. The lack of effective enforcement also contributes to the apathy of
the habitual traffic offenders. |
