SMK Shansi, a school that was established a hundred years
ago, held a charity dinner to raise funds for the restoration and
maintenance of the school. The event began with a beautiful rendition of the
school song by the school choir, followed by a speech from the Principal,
Puan Indra Sidhu.
In her speech, the Principal highlighted the dire state of the school's
infrastructure, with dangerous structural cracks in the buildings that
needed repair, as well as outdated electrical wiring and a lack of basic
facilities. She appealed to well-wishers, friends, and the government to
lend a helping hand to raise almost a quarter of a million ringgit to
address these issues.
The guest-of-honor, Datuk Salleh Krishnan, donated RM100,000 on the spot,
which was met with thunderous applause from the audience. The Principal then
announced that she had received anonymous donations totaling another
RM100,000 from diners in the hall, not including the proceeds from the sale
of dinner tickets and souvenir programs.
During dinner, the audience was entertained by songs, traditional and modern
dances, and a video presentation showcasing the school's achievements and
activities over the years. Chat-shows and lucky draws with donated prizes
kept the crowd engaged and delighted.
As the event drew to a close, prayers were offered for the various
communities, and the organizers expressed their heartfelt thanks to all who
had contributed. The charity dinner was deemed a success, and the school was
grateful for the generosity and support shown by everyone who participated.
Overall, the charity dinner was an opportunity for the school to celebrate
its centennial while also raising awareness and funds to address critical
issues that needed immediate attention. The event showcased the school's
spirit of community, collaboration, and resilience in the face of adversity,
and was a testament to the power of collective action and giving. |
