Dear Arts students,
I understand that many of you are feeling lost and uncertain about your
career options after Form Five. It may seem like the world is biased towards
science students, but I want to assure you that there are still many fields
where your skills and knowledge are in high demand.
While it's true that careers in medicine, dentistry, scientific research,
pharmacy, and psychiatry are popular and prestigious, there are also many
successful professionals in the Arts arena. You don't need a title like Dr.
or Ir. to achieve success and make a good living.
In fact, some of the most successful people in fields like accounting,
financial planning, investing, and hospitality are Arts students. It takes
more than just intelligence (IQ) to excel in these careers; emotional
intelligence (EQ) is also essential. Arts students are often skilled at
communicating effectively and understanding people, which is a valuable
asset in many fields.
Your knowledge of languages and ability to articulate and express yourself
well are also highly valued in many careers. If you're interested in
person-oriented fields, consider careers in finance, banking, marketing,
public relations, human resources, journalism, news broadcasting, graphic
designing, or advertising. If you prefer an outdoor life, careers as an
environmental officer, naturalist, or event organizer may be a good fit. If
you prefer working indoors or independently, consider careers as a librarian
or researcher.
Arts students are fortunate in that their knowledge of human nature and
exposure to social interactions can be applied to a wide range of careers.
You may not have studied science as extensively as science students, but you
still have a solid foundation in mathematics and science, which can be
further developed through experience.
It's important to follow your heart and choose a career that aligns with
your interests and strengths. The world is full of opportunities for Arts
students, and there's no need to feel like you're getting a raw deal. Take
pride in your skills and knowledge, and pursue a career that excites and
inspires you.
I hope this pep talk has given you a renewed sense of confidence and
optimism about your future. Remember, the world is your oyster, and there
are countless paths you can take to achieve success and fulfillment.
Thank you, and best of luck in your career journey! |
