I walked into the restaurant, ordered my meal, and sat down
to eat. As I enjoyed my noodles, I noticed a man sitting at a nearby table,
with his back towards me, who kept leaning dangerously to one side. It was
apparent that he had been drinking a lot, and the beer bottles on his table
confirmed it. Despite his precarious position, the other diners in the
restaurant ignored him and continued with their meals.
Suddenly, I heard a loud thud and looked up to see the man sprawled on the
floor. He had fallen off his chair, and his body lay motionless. The bottles
remained upright, as if they were the only ones who had remained seated. I
immediately thought of helping him, but I hesitated when I saw that no one
else was moving. The other customers were acting as if nothing had happened.
The sudden feeling of uncertainty and indecision overwhelmed me. I didn't
know what to do. Should I rush to help him, or should I leave him alone? For
a moment, I just sat there, staring at him and contemplating my next move.
It was a terrible feeling, not knowing how to react in a crisis.
After what seemed like an eternity, the restaurant owner finally came out of
the kitchen. He glanced at the man on the floor and muttered something under
his breath in Chinese, making it clear that he was annoyed with the
situation. Without offering any help or sympathy, he dragged the man by the
hands and dumped him outside on the pavement.
I finished my meal and walked out of the restaurant. The man was lying next
to a pillar, sleeping soundly. I couldn't help but feel a sense of sadness
and pity for him. The sight of him lying there, helpless and alone, was a
stark reminder of the consequences of excessive drinking.
In conclusion, not knowing what to do in a situation that requires immediate
action can be a difficult and uncomfortable feeling. It is important to
trust your instincts and take appropriate action, even if it means going
against the norm. In this case, I regret not taking action to help the man
when he fell, and it is a lesson that has stayed with me. |
