Traveling is a unique experience that allows us to encounter
various types of people from all walks of life. However, not all of these
interactions are positive and can even lead to discomfort. In this essay, I
will share my experiences with different modes of transportation and the
kinds of travelers I have encountered on my journeys.
Let's start with bus trips. Short bus rides, where you just want to quickly
get on and off, usually have commuters in a hurry to get to work or home.
These people are usually not a problem and can even be helpful, offering to
assist with shopping bags or giving up their seat. But long haul bus trips
can be a different story. Sometimes you may be sitting next to someone who
takes up more space than they should, and unfortunately, they are unaware of
their actions. If you're thin, it's not a big deal, but if you're on the
larger side, it can be quite cramped. I've even had a friend who buys two
tickets - one for herself and one for her belongings - to avoid this
problem.
Moving on to train rides, day trips can be quite boring, as passengers tend
to stay in their seats. However, there are some who bring excessive amounts
of belongings and end up taking up extra space and crowding the overhead
compartments and tables. Night journeys are usually quieter, but there's
always the risk of encountering a snoring sleeper on the upper deck, which
can make for a sleepless night for light sleepers.
Boat rides, while not a common mode of transportation in urban areas, can be
intimidating for those who are prone to seasickness. On long boat trips, if
you start feeling nauseous, it can be quite uncomfortable, especially when
your traveling companions seem unfazed.
Taxis can be a convenient way to get from one place to another, but not all
taxi drivers are equal. Some may refuse to use the meter or take you to
certain places, while others drive erratically and cause fear for your
safety. On long distance taxi trips, if you're stuck in the middle of the
back seat, you can be sure that you won't have a comfortable journey.
For frequent air travelers, there are many tales of strange experiences with
co-passengers. Some get drunk and become a nuisance or pose a danger to
others, while others emit unpleasant odors from their body or perfume.
Passengers who recline their seats too much can also obstruct the space of
the passenger behind them, while others may not allow the seat to be
reclined at all.
In conclusion, no matter what mode of transportation you're traveling in,
it's important to brace yourself for any discomforts that may arise. At the
end of the day, you will eventually reach your destination and be able to
rest comfortably in your own home. Traveling may come with its share of
challenges, but it also provides us with a unique opportunity to encounter
new people and broaden our perspectives. |
