Dear Sir, Uncollected Garbage in Taman Panglima
On behalf of the residents of Taman Panglima, I am writing to complain about
the garbage that has not been collected in the area for the past two months.
This has caused many problems.
Previously, garbage was collected three times a week. Two months ago, the
garbage truck stopped coming. Residents were not informed about this. The
garbage began to pile up and stink. The stench is
unbearable and embarrassing. Many of us have stopped inviting friends
to our homes. We feel as if we are living in a rubbish dump!
Needless to say, the piles of rotting garbage have attracted stray dogs, cats
and rats. This compounds the situation as
they scatter the rubbish over a wider area. Besides, we have noticed an increase
in mosquitoes and flies over the past two months. At least three of the
residents of Taman Panglima have fallen victim to Dengue Fever. We know that the
piles of uncollected garbage are an excellent breeding ground for mosquitoes.
Recently, some residents decided to burn their garbage. However, this is not
a satisfactory solution. It is both unpleasant and a temporary measure. It makes
the air smoky and causes air pollution. The young, elderly and those suffering
from asthma feel very uncomfortable when the air is smoky, and almost every
evening now, the air is filled with smoke from burning rubbish. Many have
stopped going for evening walks because the air is too polluted.
Last weekend, we organized a community clean-up. We are pleased to say the
area now looks much cleaner. However, we have not been able to remove the
garbage and it is now in one huge pile in the corner of Taman Panglima. It will
remain an embarrassing eyesore until garbage collection is resumed in this area.
We know what we have done is only a short-term
measure. Soon each household will produce more rubbish and the
problem will continue. We hope you will be able to get the garbage collectors to
resume collecting rubbish in Taman Panglima. Even if they cannot come every day,
we would be most grateful if they could do it at least three times a week. We
look forward to seeing this happen soon.
Thank you
Yours faithfully, |
