A book may sometimes appear to be a boring object that people read only when they need information. Actually, that is not really true. However, when I was young I had the impression that books were boring.
Today, I have discovered how books open new doors to experiences. I read not only to gain information but to keep me from being bored during my free time. I read to entertain myself. When I read, I become part of the book and its adventure. I let the story I am reading take me away into another world, the world of fantasy. If I am reading about Knights and Dragons, I can experience the character's feelings as I read the story. I can imagine myself living as a knight in shiny armour or as the fearful dragon. In science fiction, I can imagine myself as a robot from the future or the heroine who saves the day.
Reading brings out my emotions because a story can make me
depressed or extremely happy. I enjoy being moved by what I read. Being totally involved in a good story or mystery not only makes my free time interesting. It also helps me to forget the stress of having to study all the time.
I remember a good friend of mine telling me that books are a
wealth of knowledge. After picking up reading as one of my favourite pastimes, I can't help but agree with that. |
