A Haunted House

Gerry and some friends were walking along a deserted stretch of road. They were on their way to a friend's birthday bash when their car ran out of petrol. There was no emergency telephone in sight so they decided to walk to the nearest petrol station to get some help. It was late at night. They felt cold as the night wind blew on their faces as it swept along the hard road.

One by one, they grew weary of their long walk. They looked ahead and saw nothing but dried leaves and sand. There was no sign of any petrol station ahead. They took a detour into the wooded area beside the road and followed a muddy path. After only ten minutes, they saw a large abandoned house. It looked eerie with its shattered glass windows and unmended window pane. But the boys were too tired to think of anything else but rest. They settled themselves in a corner of what seemed to be the living room and fell fast asleep.

In the middle of the night, one of the boys was rudely awakened by the sound of footsteps coming down the stairs. His hair stood on end as he thought he saw a white figure coming towards him. He yelled as loud as he could to wake the others. Although they were half asleep, they saw the floating figure and scrambled their way out of the house in fright.
