A Coincidence

To make a lazy school holiday afternoon more exciting, Kylie and Jason got together with some friends and played 'Police and Thieves'. Since they all lived in the same neighborhood, they decided to gather at the central playground where there was an adequate open space to run around. The children met after breakfast.

The children used the game of 'Scissors, papers and stones' to arrive at their designated roles of becoming either a 'Police' or a 'Thief'. Kylie and Jason ended up as the thieves of the game. When that was settled, the game began with the children running and screaming in all directions. Kylie was running into the block's void deck to escape a `police' friend of hers when she suddenly collided with a man who was running frantically towards the road.

The impact of the crash sent both Kylie and the man sprawling to the ground. The man had a red handbag in his hand, which Kylie thought was unusual since men do not carry handbags. However, she was in too much pain to think of anything just yet. Just then, two real police officers rushed over. Beads of perspiration were dripping from their foreheads and the sides of their faces. They picked the man off the ground roughly and placed him in hand-cuffs. One of them attended to Kylie to see if she needed first aid. Kylie was too dizzy to know what was going on around her.

When Kylie finally came round, her friends and an elderly woman stood beside her. The elderly woman thanked her heart and soul for helping her to catch the thief who had snatched her handbag from her. Kylie and her friends could not help but laugh at how coincidental things turned out to be that fateful morning. the police officer waited for Kylie patiently and took her statement on the whole incident.
