It was a warm afternoon. Penelope felt her eyelids grow heavy and she was soon fast asleep.
The funny thing was that she had fallen asleep whilst taking a bubble bath in her bathtub!
It was not normal of her to do that but her
hectic morning schedule in sports had drained all her energy that day.
She had meant to relax for only a short while in the bathtub and then head straight to bed.
Unfortunately, sleep could not wait.
Soon, the phone began to ring and it was for Penelope. Penelope's mother,
who was making tea for her daughter, called out sharply for Penelope but there was no reply.
Thinking that Penelope was asleep in bed, she climbed the stairs to her daughter's room.
She was shocked to find Penelope still in the bathroom because it was more than an hour since Penelope had begun her bath!
Penelope's mother pounded and rattled the door several times,
but there was still no answer. Her anxiety for Penelope grew with every minute that passed.
What if Penelope had drowned in the bathtub? She could have simply slipped underwater in her sleep!
Teary-eyed, she was about to reach for the phone for the ambulance when she heard the
soft click of the bathroom door. Her drowsy- looking daughter appeared.
Penelope's mother was more stunned than relieved. She asked Penelope for an explanation. Penelope
sheepishly replied that she had simply fallen asleep.
Her mother stared at her, disbelieving that anyone could fall asleep in a hard plastic tub!
She would have strangled her daughter for causing her to worry so much, if not for the
fact that she was glad that her daughter had not drowned in soap water. |
