Followed By A Stranger

Stranger

Jayasree was on her way back from the library when she noticed a scruffy-looking woman following her every move. Earlier in the library, she had noticed the same woman loitering around the entrance of the library, as if she was waiting for someone. Jayasree shivered at the thought that the same woman was waiting specifically for her. What did she want with her?

Jayasree normally walked home from the library because it was only a couple of blocks away. However, today did not seem a very good idea. It was too late though, as she was already on her way home and it would be useless to turn around and walk in the opposite direction of her block. Jayasree walked on to see if the woman would continue following. She was distraught to find that the woman was still there, behind her.

Jayasree made an abrupt turn after a few more steps when she could no longer put up with that woman's following. She startled the woman when she went right up to her and asked her what she wanted. The woman told her that she wanted some money to buy some food. Jayasree was not convinced by her story. She threatened to make a police report should the woman continue to follow her back home. The woman had nothing to say except to walk away. Jayasree was shaken but relieved.
