I used to enjoy reading horror stories until I realized how much they affected me.

I had to study late into the night to prepare for my examination. Alone in the hall when everyone else was asleep, a very slight noise frightened me. I imagined that there was someone behind me while I was memorizing mathematical formulae. Every time the curtains fluttered in the wind, my heart missed a beat. When my neighbour's dog barked, I broke out in goose bumps because dogs are supposed to be able to see spirits that are invisible to the human eye. Finally, I decided to read aloud so that at least I had the company of my voice. Unfortunately, I soon felt thirsty from it. Still I dared not go to the kitchen to get a drink in case a werewolf was waiting there to pounce on me.

After the examination, I had plenty of time on my hands. What do you think I did? I read everything from comics to science-fiction, but I did not read a single horror story this time.
