"Don't forget the sandwiches!" Mother reminded me. We had been preparing for this family picnic for two days. Everybody, especially my little brother, had been looking forward to it.

All of a sudden, dark clouds started to gather in the sky. Soon, it began to drizzle, and before long, it was pouring cats and dogs. The picnic had to be cancelled.

I was sulking on the sofa when Mother suggested, "Why don't we clean up the house ?" Soon, everyone was busy doing something. We dusted the furniture and threw away old magazines. The store room was purged of many things we had conveniently stashed away inside. Father painted the cabinet, something he had always said he would do but had never got round to doing. I found many old photographs and had a good laugh over them. My little brother polished the glass table so well that we could see our reflections on it clearly.

At the end of the day, we were all exhausted. As the family gathered round the dining table for a dinner of pizza, we were glad that the day had turned out well.
