When I was young, I used to enjoy watching Mother cook, especially when she was preparing my favourite omelettes. When the eggs turned golden and Mother flipped them over, I would jump and clap my hands with glee.

Once, when Mother was not in, I decided to fry an egg by myself. Having watched Mother do it so many times before, I thought I could not go wrong. First, I washed the pan. Then I poured some oil into the pan. However, as the oil heated up, it splattered all over the stove. Some of it got on my face and arms, and I cried out in pain. I was terrified and did not even try to go near the pan ! After what seemed like eternity, the sizzling oil stopped hissing. I then turned off the stove and spent the next hour cleaning up the mess.

After that incident, I never wanted to learn cooking. Up till now, I still have not learnt the art of frying anything. I would rather help Mother wash the cooking utensils after she finishes cooking !
