Ways to Show Appreciation for Teachers' Sacrifice and
Service |
|
Datuk Usman Awang, a National Laureate, once said that the birth of a Prime
Minister, doctor, lawyer, and lecturer is the result of the sweat of an ordinary
teacher who taught them how to read, write, and count. This statement is enough
to prove the high status of a teacher and should serve as a reminder to every
member of the nation. Teachers are individuals who sacrifice their time, soul,
and body to educate every member of society to become contributors to the
progress of the nation in the future. As a pearl of wisdom states, teachers are
like candles that burn themselves to provide light or guidance to their students
in life. Therefore, each one of us should appreciate the sacrifice and service
of teachers who have educated us from childhood to adulthood.
One way to show appreciation for teachers is to communicate with them in a
polite manner. As contained in the National Principles, politeness and civility
are values that every Malaysian citizen must apply. As a student, these values
must be practiced, especially when communicating with teachers. For example,
using polite words, a low tone, and a pleasant demeanor are practices that will
undoubtedly make teachers happy with their students' behavior. This value is
related to respect. Therefore, if students want to appreciate the sacrifice and
service of teachers, they should practice respect and politeness when in school
or outside.
In addition, students should show their seriousness in learning as a sign of
appreciation for teachers' sacrifice and service. A teacher's duty is to convey
and educate students about something new and ensure that they clearly understand
it. Therefore, if students are serious in completing schoolwork or exercises
given by teachers, they will undoubtedly feel relieved because they have
achieved the task's objective. Furthermore, students who focus on the teaching
and learning process can also help teachers in carrying out their duties if they
understand what they are trying to convey. If students cannot understand what is
being taught in the classroom, it is encouraged to meet with the teacher. This
is because teachers will undoubtedly help students understand the subject matter
until they succeed. This proves that the sacrifice and service of teachers
should be respected and appreciated.
Furthermore, the way to appreciate teachers' sacrifice is to always be
disciplined and follow the rules when in school. A disciplined student is one
who is punctual, dressed neatly according to the rules, and not involved in
gangsterism, vandalism, or truancy. In my opinion, teachers already have many
difficult tasks to carry out in the classroom. Therefore, if students are
disciplined and can manage themselves when outside the classroom, they can
undoubtedly ease the burden and tasks of teachers. They can focus on providing
their full energy in the teaching and learning process in the classroom.
Ultimately, disciplined students who follow school rules and proper instructions
from teachers will become the driving force behind academic excellence and the
character of students.
Moreover, for students who have completed their schooling, they should continue
to appreciate teachers' service by practicing the tradition of visiting them.
Nowadays, the sophistication of technology without borders can undoubtedly help
us connect with teachers after completing our education. When teachers are
approaching old age, many of them are afflicted with illnesses and other
problems. As a student or former student, we need to visit them if they are in
such a situation as a sign of showing sympathy, like pinching the right leg when
the left one hurts. |
