The Three Main Benefits of Reading the Newspaper |
|
Good morning, everyone. As the president of the English Language Society, I am
honored to speak to you today as we launch English Language Week. This year's
theme is "Read to Improve," and I want to emphasize the importance of reading
the newspaper every day. In this speech, I will discuss three main benefits of
reading the newspaper.
First, newspapers provide us with the latest news. We can stay up-to-date with
current events happening in Malaysia and around the world. Newspapers also
inform us of the latest advancements in various fields such as science,
technology, arts, and medicine. By reading the newspaper, we can keep ourselves
informed about the changes that are taking place in the world.
Second, reading the newspaper helps us to increase our knowledge. We learn about
the names of towns and cities in Malaysia and around the world, which improves
our geography knowledge. We become familiar with the leaders of various
countries and their policies, and we become more aware of social and
environmental issues, health concerns, and technological advancements. Thus, our
general knowledge will improve, and we will find it easier to converse with
others and join in discussions.
Third, reading the newspaper regularly improves our language skills. As we read,
we are exposed to new vocabulary, idiomatic expressions, and a variety of words
and phrases. Over time, our vocabulary will expand, and our grammar and sentence
structure will improve. This will help us to speak and write more effectively,
making us feel more confident in social situations or when expressing ourselves
in writing.
In conclusion, I encourage all of you to make reading the newspaper a daily
habit. Not only is it affordable, but it also provides us with the latest news,
increases our knowledge, and improves our language skills. Remember, you can
easily obtain a newspaper, so let's take up the challenge and read the newspaper
every day. Thank you. |
