National Service Should Be for Both Males and Females |
|
Good morning, Madam Chairman, Honorable Judges, Members of the House, and fellow
members of the opposition. I am here to argue against the motion that national
service should be for males only. I strongly believe that national service is
for all youths, regardless of their gender.
Firstly, both males and females are equally responsible for national security.
The task of safeguarding the nation's security should not fall solely on the
shoulders of males. In today's age of equality, where men and women are equal
partners in nation-building, it is only fair that both genders become equal
"guardians" in protecting the sovereignty of the nation.
Secondly, the advent of sophisticated machines has simplified multitasking in
all aspects of work. Humans are aided by numerous prototypes of gadgets, and
defense too requires brains, not just brawn. Both men and women can put their
expertise to good use in this area.
Thirdly, one of the many objectives of the National Service program is to
promote national unity. National integration should cut across race, culture,
color, creed, religion, language, and origins. National bonding is not just for
the male fraternity; it is also the right of females to be fully involved in
fostering ties.
Additionally, both boys and girls require discipline, and what better way to
instill the "military" discipline that our youth needs than through the national
service? While our youth are not undisciplined, a reminder and a dose of the
"no-nonsense" military style can be good for their heart and soul. Discipline is
an ingredient that, when applied justly and with the right blend of freedom, is
an antidote to many ills of society.
Lastly, the national service program addresses the social problems of unhealthy
youth. Youth, regardless of their gender, need to be physically healthy, and the
national service program enforces this maxim quite religiously. The program also
addresses the issue of book knowledge versus practical knowledge, teaching
living skills, and allowing trainees to specialize in a field of their choice.
Our youth need to be exposed to survival skills, and the national service
program fulfills this pressing need for them to mature.
In conclusion, I want to reiterate that national service should be for both
males and females. National service is a program that fulfills the country's
aspirations to nurture youth of both sexes to contribute intelligently towards
nation-building and national integration. We cannot separate the roles for they
are complementary. Success can be achieved with active participation from both
sexes. National service is for everyone, regardless of their gender.
I rest my case. Thank you. |
