The Impact of Censorship on Society: The Role of Cancel Culture and School Censorship

Censorship has always been an integral part of society, and it is determined by the government, private institutions, or public foundations to control obscenity, child pornography, hate speech, and improve national security. Currently, censorship is frequently compared with cancellation, and individuals expressing oppressive or inappropriate opinions on social media platforms are likely to be "canceled" by society today. This has resulted in numerous people experiencing the fear of sharing their opinions on controversial topics in public. Moreover, social media platforms have the opportunity to ban people in case their expressions are considered to affect society negatively.

School censorship is another example of censorship in society, and it is intended to protect children from mature information. However, many books providing information about religion, politics, or sex are banned in school libraries, and this can have long-term effects on children and adolescents. For instance, if children have limited knowledge in the context of sex education, they are more likely to face unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases at an early age. Additionally, school censorship has resulted in the development of racial and cultural discrimination.

In conclusion, censorship is necessary to control problematic content, but excessive use of censorship can cause a variety of social issues. Cancel culture and school censorship are examples of how censorship can be negative and cause unintended consequences. Therefore, a balance needs to be found between censorship and free speech to ensure that individuals can express their opinions while still protecting society from harmful content.
