The Importance of Emotional Intelligence in Personal Communication

In today's world, the ability to effectively communicate with others is paramount, and emotional intelligence plays a crucial role in this process. According to David Goleman, a prominent scientist in the emotional intelligence field, emotional intelligence is a four-component set of qualities that enable a person to interact with other people effectively. These four components are self-awareness, self-management, empathy, and skilled relationship.

Self-awareness involves the individual's ability to understand the source of their emotions and their demonstration to society. Self-management, on the other hand, involves the practical capability to control the emotional flow. The third component, empathy, describes the level of an individual's ability to understand other people's emotions. Finally, skilled relationship involves combining the two internal interaction aspects and integrating empathy as an indispensable factor of interhuman communication.

To help children develop emotional intelligence, educational entities should pay attention to the four defining factors of personal interaction. By regularly training and experiencing real conversation, children become more adapted to real-life interaction, which makes them more efficient in terms of emotional intelligence. Additionally, other scientists, such as Howard Gardner and Stenberg, have described intelligence types that can help individuals develop their emotional intelligence.

In conclusion, emotional intelligence plays a pivotal role in personal communication. It is essential to understand the four components of emotional intelligence, including self-awareness, self-management, empathy, and skilled relationship. With proper training and experience, individuals can develop their emotional intelligence, leading to better communication and more successful interactions with others.
