A Rainy Night Rescue |
|
It was a dark and stormy night. The rain was pouring down heavily, and thunder
and lightning filled the sky. As I trudged through the streams of muddy water, I
shivered with cold and fear. I saw people rushing by, completely soaked in the
downpour. Schoolchildren were also making their way home, clutching their heavy
schoolbags. As I continued, I noticed some road repair work had been abandoned
by workers who had fled due to the storm. The road was littered with debris, and
it was hard to see what was ahead.
Suddenly, I heard the sound of children crying. I quickly turned back and went
towards the source of the sounds. I was horrified to find two small children had
fallen into a gaping hole on the road. The planks covering the hole had moved
away with the force of the rushing water. It was dark all around, and I could
barely see the children. I assured them that I would get help and ran as fast as
I could.
I didn't know what to do, but I decided to go to the nearest house for help. I
knew the man, Mr. Teng, who lived there, and I called him to explain the
situation. He readily agreed to help and said he would get a torch and some
rope. He also called his friend Encik Abu to come along with him. A few other
neighbors joined the rescue party, and together we went to the road. We managed
to get the children out of the watery hole safely. The children were cold and
scared.
The parents of the children arrived, having just finished work, and were shocked
to hear what had happened. They were very grateful to the neighbors who had
helped to rescue the children and thanked them profusely. I felt proud to have
been a part of this act of neighborliness, and it was a moment I will never
forget. The neighbors had acted without hesitation to help people in need. As I
walked back home, I felt a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction. |
