How Laughter Yoga and Therapeutic Laughter Can Benefit
Your Health |
|
Initially skeptical of joining in a laughter yoga activity, I soon found myself
genuinely laughing and feeling good. Laughter has been proven to provide
physical exercise, reduce the chances of respiratory infections, and produce
endorphins that act as natural painkillers.
One study showed that even 20 seconds of intense laughter, even if faked, can
double the heart rate for three to five minutes. Experts believe in the benefits
of mirthful laughter for our physical and mental well-being.
The use of laughter as a form of therapy has gained recognition among
psychologists and therapists. Incorporating humor and laughter into work with
patients can have a positive impact on their physical and mental health.
Laughter Yoga combines laughter exercises with yogic breathing techniques to
increase oxygen intake and improve lung function. These exercises can also be
playful and childlike, such as hopping like a kangaroo or doing the penguin
walk.
Overall, laughter has a powerful effect on our health and well-being. As Mark
Twain once said, "He who laughs lasts." |
