The Conundrum of School Vacations: Respite or Burden? |
|
School vacations, the much-anticipated breaks from the daily grind of academic
life, are supposed to be times of respite and freedom from school chores.
However, for most students, they are not, especially when they are in an
examination year. Mid-term breaks, half-year and end-of-year holiday stretches
are supposed to be times of relaxation, but instead, students are often burdened
with endless worksheets to complete and remedial classes to attend.
Educators and administrators are guilty of perpetuating this cycle, with some
assigning excessive holiday work and scheduling remedial classes during vacation
time. Even some parents join in, enrolling their children in educational camps
or lugging school books to picnic grounds and holiday resorts.
Despite all of this, there are adults who understand the importance of taking a
total break and allow their children to enjoy the luxury too. They disconnect
from work and pleasure, creating a no-man's atmosphere where everyone can truly
relax and recharge.
As a student, it can be difficult to strike a balance between academic
responsibilities and enjoying a well-deserved vacation. While some may prefer a
mixture of schoolwork, classes, and vacation time, it is crucial to recognize
the importance of taking a break to truly unwind and enjoy the days of childhood
and teen years before being thrust into the adult world.
In the end, the question remains: are school vacations a respite or a burden?
The answer lies in finding a balance and creating a healthy approach to vacation
time that promotes rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation. |
