The proposed truce and release of hostages in Gaza, initially set for Thursday,
have been delayed until at least Friday. Israel reported launching 300
airstrikes in the past day, and columns of black smoke were visible in northern
Gaza.
The release of hostages, intended to coincide with the war's first ceasefire,
is now expected to commence on Friday. The truce, announced on Wednesday,
involves the release of 50 women and children hostages by militants in exchange
for 150 Palestinian detainees.
The delay has caused anxiety for Israeli relatives of hostages and concern
for Palestinians in the combat zone. Israel has stated that the truce could
extend beyond four days if militants release at least 10 hostages daily.
However, both sides intend to resume fighting once the
truce concludes.
Israeli officials cite logistical details and the need to finalize
arrangements for the delay, while White House spokesperson Adrienne Watson
