In an attempt to intensify its ongoing dispute with the United States over
technology and security, China's government has called for a halt in purchasing
goods from Micron Technology Inc., the largest U.S. memory chipmaker.
The move comes as the U.S., Europe, and Japan are reducing Chinese access to
advanced chipmaking technology due to concerns of potential weapon usage. As
tensions rise, China is faced with the challenge of retaliating without
negatively impacting its own industries and ongoing efforts to develop domestic
chip suppliers.
The conflict raises concerns about the potential
decoupling of global technology standards and strains in U.S.-Chinese
