Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko are
set to meet after Russia issued a warning against any aggression towards
Belarus. The meeting comes in the wake of
Poland's decision to move military units closer to its border with Belarus in
response to the arrival of Russian Wagner Group forces in the country.
Putin stated that Moscow would respond to any hostility towards Minsk using
all available means. The two leaders will discuss the further development of
their countries' strategic partnership, which has been marked by joint military
training exercises and the use of Belarus as a base for Russian nuclear weapons,
drawing condemnation from the West.
The situation has raised concerns in Kyiv that Putin might pressure
Lukashenko to join a new ground offensive, expanding Russia's invasion of
Ukraine. |
