French President Emmanuel Macron has urged the European Union to reduce its
reliance on the U.S. and establish itself as a "third pole" in global affairs,
alongside Beijing and Washington.
During his recent visit to China, Macron cautioned against being pulled into
a crisis over Taiwan triggered by an
"American rhythm and a Chinese overreaction," causing tension between the EU and
the U.S. while highlighting differences within the bloc.
The French presidency's readout of a call between Macron and President Biden
made no mention of Taiwan, in contrast to the White House statement emphasizing
the importance of stability across the Taiwan Strait. |
