Russian forces shelled a southern Ukrainian city that was severely affected by a
catastrophic dam collapse, causing further damage and suspending rescue efforts.
At least five people have died, and tens of thousands are without drinking water
due to the destruction of the Kakhovka dam. Ukraine accused Russia of
intentionally blowing up the dam, while Russia claimed that Ukraine bombarded
it.
The flooding has led to ruined crops, environmental damage, and potential
long-term electricity shortages. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited
the area to assess the damage but had to suspend rescue work due to the
shelling. The conflict between Russian and
Ukrainian forces has been further complicated by the aftermath of the dam
collapse.

understood, with thousands of people evacuated from inundated areas. The
