In a significant display of unity, the European Union and the United States have
unveiled plans for a joint offensive against China, focusing on the growing
concerns surrounding its non-market practices. The leaders of both entities,
including US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and European Commission
Vice-President Margrethe Vestager, are set to convene at the EU-US Trade and
Technology Council in Sweden.
Their shared agenda encompasses combating economic
coercion, curbing the outflow of strategic knowledge to China, and
harmonizing export controls on critical items like semiconductors. Acknowledging
China as both a partner and a strategic rival, the EU intends to realign its
China policy to align with the more assertive stance of the US.
With a particular emphasis on addressing China's manipulation of information
and amplification of Russian disinformation narratives, this emerging
transatlantic alliance aims to counter the perceived threats posed by China's
non-market policies and practices. |
