Farewell at the
City Gates
Soldiers marched out in the moonlight,
Leaving the city with all its
might.
News from the frontier had been
cut,
Lives and deaths were left to our
own gut.
No one collected the abandoned gear,
Returning horses could still
sense fear.
We mourn the fallen, unsure of
fate,
Crying at the city gates, far too
late. |
