Dear Debra I have finally settled down in my new
apartment in Adelaide. It is a small, one-bedroom
apartment just outside of town. It is only a
fifteen-minute bus ___1___
to my university campus. The landlord has very
kindly ___2___
the place with basic items like a bed, wardrobe,
sofa and other items. My landlord is an elderly lady
who owns three such apartments and rents them out to
undergraduates like myself as a ___3___
of income. She is very motherly and kind.
My school term ___4___
in a week. In the meantime, I have been traveling
around town and in the vicinity of the apartment to ___5___
myself with the place. This way, I will not feel so ___6___
here. I have discovered that there are many quaint
cafe near my apartment. However, I think I will try
to ___7___
simple meals myself so as to save money. Luckily for
me, there is a supermarket within walking ___8___.
This will be very convenient when I need to do my
grocery ___9___.
So far, I have made only one friend. She is a
second-year student at the same university as
myself. She lives in the same ___10___
but her apartment is two floors down from me. A
couple of days ago, I bumped into her when I was
shifting my personal belongings in. As a ___11___
of my carelessness, I caused her to drop her school
file and books. It was then that I noticed the
school name on her file. I asked her about it and
that was how we ___12___
we were studying in the same school. We even made
plans to travel to school together whenever our
timetables permitted. She is a very nice person and

to get along with.
Right now, my apartment is very bare as I have
yet to spruce it up. I cannot ___14___
to buy anything extravagant so I think I will have
to decorate a section of the apartment at a time.
Hopefully, I will be able to get some good buys at
the weekend flea markets.
I have only been here for a week and I ___15___
home already. I miss my family and friends like you.
It is exciting to be starting a new chapter in my
life where I learn to be independent but at the same
time, it is very lonely for me now. I hope that once
the school term officially starts, I will be able to
befriend more people.
