A Day in the Journeyman's Life |
|
The resounding chime of the alarm rouses Maniam from his slumber. The clock
displays six o'clock, and with a weary sigh, he rises to embark on yet
another day as a chauffeur, ferrying school children to and from their
educational abodes.
At six-thirty, after a hasty bath to shake off the remnants of drowsiness,
Maniam ignites the engine of his weathered 22-seater bus, setting it in
motion along its customary path. In a routine he has perfected over time, he
traverses his designated route, meticulously collecting children destined
for various schools. By seven o'clock, all but one ailing child have boarded
the bus, and with utmost care, Maniam navigates the bustling thoroughfares.
Guiding his vehicle to four different schools, he deposits children at each,
planning his voyage meticulously to ensure he arrives at the final
institution by seven-thirty precisely. For should any child be tardy due to
his mismanagement, the blame inevitably falls upon him.
As the clock strikes half past seven, his bus is now empty, and the roads
appear to magically disentangle from the clutches of congestion. Most of the
young ones have found their way to their respective classrooms. It is at
this moment that Maniam makes a brief pause, halting at a humble stall to
partake in his morning repast.
By eleven-thirty, the seasoned bus driver embarks on the second leg of his
journey, collecting a fresh batch of school children for the afternoon
session. With diligence, he delivers them to their respective schools,
concluding his mission by twelve-thirty.
At one o'clock, he sets forth once more, this time to gather the children
from the schools, attending to each institution in succession. Once all his
precious cargo is secured within the bus, he undertakes the noble task of
returning them safely to their homes.
Upon reaching his abode, Maniam indulges in a well-deserved respite,
savoring a home-cooked lunch before retiring for a brief afternoon slumber.
As the clock strikes three, he awakens to tend to his trusty bus, ensuring
it remains clean and presentable for the journeys ahead.
With the sun's descent, it marks the commencement of his final expedition
for the day. At six in the evening, he embarks on his last circuit,
collecting the children from the schools they attended during the afternoon
session. Safely nestled within the confines of his vehicle, he commences
their homeward journey, ensuring their secure arrival by seven-thirty.
With the day's arduous endeavors now behind him, Maniam finds solace within
the walls of his dwelling. After a refreshing bath and a wholesome dinner,
he unwinds in the company of his trusty television before finally yielding
to the embrace of slumber. Thus concludes yet another day in the life of a
dedicated bus driver, ceaselessly tending to the welfare of the future
generation. |
