Etymology |
A story called "The History of Little
Goody Two-Shoes" tells the tale of a poor orphan girl named Margery
Meanwell, who becomes an educated and successful teacher through
hard work and perseverance. The character's name came from the fact
that she received a new pair of shoes from a wealthy benefactor,
which was a rare luxury at the time. |
