When I woke again, it was already evening, but the hour of
the day was the only thing that had changed.
I got up and washed my face in cold water. I ___1___
a tie and a jacket, and went downstairs onto the street. There
was a news-stand at the corner, half a block away. I went there
and bought a magazine. I carried it back to the apartment ___2___
looking at it.
In the apartment, I ___3___
myself another cup of coffee. I opened the magazine, and there
was the story again on page one: Celebrity Murdered by
Boyfriend. I read the story slowly, finishing my cup of coffee.
I sat there ___4___
quite a long while, and it began to get dark outside in the city
streets. The lights and neons came on to ___5___
the darkness back. I finally became ___6___
via my stomach that I hadn't eaten all day, and that I had
better eat something before making my decision. So I went out to
a restaurant and ordered a steak.
After eating, I walked back and I ___7___
a few more cups of coffee, which was cold and tasteless by then.
Then, I changed into my jeans and a jacket. It was clear to me
that I had to surrender to the police. |
