Micheal got down from the bus and walked toward his block of
flats. He had a ___1___
at school and was looking forward to his usual afternoon nap.
Little did he expect the afternoon to be any different from that
of a normal school day. "It's been ___2___
for the past few days," Micheal thought, as he walked beside the
deep monsoon drain which was almost ___3___.
A little boy who was standing beside the drain was laughing and
pointing at the water. "The boys must be up to some tricks,"
Micheal ___4___
when he saw two heads bobbing about in the water. It was a ___5___
to him as the monsoon drain was a favorite fishing spot for the
boys especially on rainy days. But something made Micheal look
again. The heads were still floating ___6___.
He sensed that something was wrong.
Micheal told the boy to stop laughing and run to get help.
Then he took off his shoes and ___7___
the water. Suddenly, he realized that he could only see one head
above the water. Micheal quickly moved towards it, grabbed the
body and dragged it out. Leaving the boy on ___8___,
Micheal began searching for the second boy. He thought that the
boy might have drifted further down, so he looked lower down the
drain.
A crowd gathered at the ___9___.
A few other boys joined Micheal in the search. All their efforts
were unsuccessful. They could not locate the other boy.
Meanwhile someone notified the family of the boy who was ___10___.
They were hysterical when they heard the news. The family of the
boy whom Micheal saved thanked him. Micheal wished he had saved
the other boy too. |
