Homesickness
For forty years I've roamed far and wide,
Three thousand miles of hills and streams I've spied.
Towers tall as dragons, reaching to the sky,
Trees of jade, with branches trailing nigh.
Gone the days when war and weapons knew,
Now a captive, low in rank and subdued.
But my heart recalls that fateful day,
When I left my home and knelt to pray.
In the temple where I said goodbye,
Still I hear the mournful song, soaring high.
Tears still fall, as I recall my home,
Where my emperor, my people, and my throne roam. |
