The Strays is a social horror film that portrays the underlying faults in
British society through the story of Neve, a trophy wife living in a white
suburbia. Neve left her council estate home 20 years ago, and now lives an
unfulfilling life where she constantly tries to fit in with the white society,
suppressing her identity. However, the arrival of two ghosts from her past
escalates her undoing, leading to a climactic home invasion.
Split into four time-jumping chapters, the plot is loosely drawn and messy,
but Ashley Madekwe's intense performance as Neve and the supporting roles played
by Bukky Bakray and Jorden Myrie are commendable. The film concludes with a
jaw-slackening final frame that is sure to
leave the audience grinning and grimacing. |
