"Jesus Revolution" is a film about the rise of the "Jesus freaks" movement in
the 1970s, based on a book by one of the leaders, Greg Laurie. The story follows
Chuck Smith, a minister who invites long-haired and dedicated follower Lonnie
Frisbee and his hippie followers into his church.
They baptize the hippies in the Pacific Ocean, and the film depicts the
community's growth, exploring the power of community, purpose, and spirituality
that Smith and Frisbee offer. However, the movie is superficial, preaching to
the converts and ignoring the hard questions about
evangelical Christianity's limitations. |
