The Ups and Downs of Farm Life |
|
David, a young farm-hand, and his girlfriend Lucy were eager to start their own
small farm. Despite their limited funds, they were determined to make it happen.
One day, David's co-worker informed him of a farm for sale about forty miles
away. The price seemed reasonable, and they decided to check it out.
Upon arrival, David was disappointed by the unkempt appearance of the farm. The
caretaker showed him around the small house and shed, which were in need of
repairs. However, the price turned out to be even lower than expected, and David
decided to purchase the farm.
After their marriage, David and Lucy worked hard to make the farm a home. David
ploughed the fields and tended to the animals, while Lucy cleaned the house and
tended to a kitchen garden. Unfortunately, the farm was not without its
problems. The soil was poor, the young saplings were destroyed in a windstorm,
and an epidemic killed off their lambs. Despite their hard work and
determination, their efforts seemed to be in vain.
After four long years, David decided to give up on the farm. It had not been the
good bargain they had hoped for. Nonetheless, their experience taught them a
valuable lesson about the ups and downs of farm life. They had faced many
challenges and disappointments, but they also had the satisfaction of knowing
they had worked hard for their dream. |
