Reducing Paper Wastage in Our School: A Call to Action |
|
Good morning Principal, Teachers, and friends,
I am delighted to address you today on an issue that affects us all: paper
wastage in our school. As you know, we are currently engaged in the "Keep the
School Clean Campaign," and it's crucial that we work together to keep our
school clean and sustainable. This responsibility falls on all of us, not just
the school cleaners or students on duty. So, what can we do to reduce paper
wastage?
There are two ways of thinking about this issue. Some may ask, "Why bother?"
while others may be eager to take action to maximize paper use. I believe that
most of us fall into the latter category, as we understand that the tree
population is rapidly decreasing, and if we don't act now to reduce, reuse, and
recycle paper, we may soon run out of this precious resource.
So, what can you and I do to tackle this problem of valuable paper being
carelessly discarded or abandoned? I'm sure that many of you have ideas that are
similar to mine or even better. Let me share some of my suggestions:
Firstly, we should get into the habit of using both sides of a paper. Often, we
see papers thrown away with one side still blank, while the other has been used.
It's essential to remember that the other side is still usable and can be
utilized. Secondly, we should make use of the cutouts and remnants of paper that
still have parts that can be used to make little notes, short memos, or
reminders that we may need at that moment. Thirdly, we frequently see exercise
books with unused papers being discarded. These pages can be cut out neatly and
bound together to form little notelets that can be easily carried around in our
pockets or wallets. This will save us the trouble of scrambling for paper to
write down important details or reminders, and we won't have to resort to
writing on our palms, which is unsanitary.
Additionally, we can use colorful flyers, magazines, or junk mail to cut out
lovely illustrations for decorative purposes or to create designs for our art
lessons. This will add color and vibrancy to our school environment. Lastly, we
should collect all the used papers to be sold or sent to recycling centers. We
should not be throwing them away carelessly, whether it's in lockers, desks, or
around the bins. If we do need to throw them away, we should make sure that they
land in the appropriate bins and not become litter.
These are just a few of my ideas, and I am confident that each one of you can
come up with more innovative and practical ways to reduce paper wastage and
create a more thrifty and sustainable school community. Let's work together to
make our school a more environmentally friendly place, where every sheet of
paper is valued and utilized to its fullest potential. Thank you. |
