A Generous Gesture from an Unexpected Donor |
|
I knelt by the window, gently opening the old memory box that had been closed
for so long. Inside were so many fragmented memories! As I looked closely, it
seemed like a rainbow bridge that had accompanied me for fourteen years. To my
surprise, I found a few glistening teardrops beside the rainbow bridge. I picked
one up, and my memory was transported back to a summer day a year ago.
That morning, I went out for a stroll and stumbled upon a donation booth for a
disaster-stricken area. As there were very few people around, I noticed an
elderly man in his seventies wearing tattered clothes and carrying a torn sack
on his back. It was obvious that he was a scrap collector. He limped his way to
the donation box and the workers there were surprised to see him. "Grandpa,
you're here to make a donation?" they asked.
The elderly man quietly replied, "Yes." He then reached into his old and
worn-out shirt and took out a crumpled 500 yuan note, which he stuffed into the
donation box. The worker in charge of guarding the donation box was shocked and
exclaimed, "Grandpa, why did you donate so much money?"
The old man nodded, struggling to speak. He then left, and his figure gradually
diminished until it disappeared.
I was also astonished. An elderly man in his sixties or seventies was still
collecting scrap for a living. Life is so difficult, yet he could donate 500
yuan without hesitation!
Later that day, as I returned to the same street to buy some things, I ran into
the same old man again. To my surprise, he took out two new 100 yuan notes from
his pocket and placed them into the donation box. The worker in charge of the
donation box was once again astonished and couldn't help but ask, "Grandpa,
where did you get so much money?"
The old man replied, "I had only one or two coins and bills left from this
morning, so I went to the bank and exchanged them for a full bill before coming
back to donate again."
I was moved to tears. Warm tears streamed down my face, warming my heart. I
locked up the memory box and kept those few teardrops safe, and in my heart, I
will always remember this kind and generous gesture from an unexpected donor. |
