The Captive Parrot |
|
Before being purchased by my owner, I used to play with my siblings. But now, I
am confined to a cage, unable to fly freely.
My owner bought me during the winter, along with a green tiger-striped parrot of
a different breed. Despite being a rare purple color, my owner favored the green
one, and I was left neglected.
I watched jealously as my owner played with the green parrot outside, wishing I
could reclaim the affection I deserved. The next day, the green parrot suddenly
passed away, leaving my owner heartbroken. I remembered the fights and squabbles
we had over food. Now, I am the "ruler" of the cage.
Perhaps I was just the unwanted bird, as my owner never paid much attention to
me. I gazed at the sparrows flying freely in the sky, knowing I could have
joined them. I was only three months old and already knew that freedom was the
most important thing to us birds. I wanted my owner to care for me more, but I
could not tell them without causing more sadness.
I had nothing and could do nothing. So, I took my chance and flew high into the
sky, bidding farewell to my "home" of a few months. I may silently follow my
owner or be caught and become another pet of a second owner, perhaps loved or
forgotten in a corner. As I listened to the birds singing outside, I could only
lament my tragic fate. |
