The Way of Go |

|
Go, since ancient times, has been one of the four major arts. It contains
mysterious and unpredictable changes and rules of the universe. The stones
placed on the board can transform into exquisite and extraordinary moves, just
like the colorful and varied aspects of life.
Entering the World of Go
When I was seven years old, my mother wanted me to calm down, so she sent me to
learn Go. At the Go club, I watched with big eyes as the older players placed
black and white stones on the board in various shapes. I tugged on my mother's
clothes with my tender little hands, demanding to learn. Seeing my interest, my
mother was overjoyed and signed me up. With the guidance of my teacher, my Go
skills improved greatly, and I could maneuver through the strategies and moves
with ease. I couldn't help but feel extremely proud.
Pride Comes Before a Fall
During a competition, I was confident of winning. The other players were all
eager and ready to compete. I thought to myself: "Ha! How could any of you be my
opponents? You're all just amateurs." The game began, and I tried to intimidate
my opponent with my arrogant eyes and aggressive moves. However, there is always
someone better than oneself. My opponent calmly defused my tactics, revealing my
impatient and reckless mentality. I started to play recklessly, and in the end,
I lost. I missed the chance to win the championship. I hung my head in humility
and regret.
Creating Brilliance
Since my failure, I have learned to be humble, courteous, and serious. I went to
another competition, and this time, I calmed my restless mindset. I was less
domineering, and more serious and cautious with my moves. I played each game
with all my might. My delicate little hands clenched into fists, and my face
turned red. In the end, I finally won first place.
Go contains numerous philosophical ideas, teaching even the most arrogant to be
humble.
