Regret and Reflection |
|
On Wednesday of this week, our class committee organized a grass pulling
activity for members and student leaders. The weather was sunny and hot, and we
started promptly at 12:30 noon.
Everyone got to work, and in no time, we had filled an entire basket with pulled
grass. The enthusiasm and speed of the students increased as we went on.
However, some students continued to work even when we took a short break, and it
made us feel guilty for resting.
As I was working hard, a fledgling bird learning to fly suddenly appeared out of
nowhere. It distracted me, and I chased after the bird across the grassy field,
from the bushes to the ground. Finally, I caught it, and my classmates gathered
around to see the bird I had caught. I had to work hard to catch it, and
everyone praised me for it.
However, someone suddenly said, "The bird's wings are broken, and it's about to
die. Look, it's gasping for air!" I suddenly felt a sense of guilt and regret. I
didn't mean to harm it; I just wanted to play with it and then let it go.
Unfortunately, I exerted too much force when catching it, and it died.
I'm sorry, little bird. I ended your fragile life, destroyed your happy
childhood, and caused immeasurable damage and harm to you and your family. I
promise with my repentant heart that I will never do it again, nor will I let
anyone else do the same. |
