Memories of Elementary School Graduation |
|
On a scorching summer day, cicadas chirped unconsciously while the azure sky was
veiled with a grey hue. The wind, carrying a hint of summer heat, blew
ceaselessly with an inexplicable sadness.
As friendships came to an end, unlike the mournful elegy sung in Lin Haiyin's
"Memories of South City," we didn't sing a sad song as we approached the end of
our elementary school years. Instead, we documented our colorful elementary
school lives through a series of slideshows. Looking at our young and
inexperienced selves in the pictures, we were eager, joyful, and anticipating
growing up and evolving into mature individuals, much like tadpoles eagerly
awaiting their transformation into frogs. Together with other tadpoles around
us, we ventured towards maturity and towards the upright and promising future.
That day, as the light rain fell gradually, the memory is somewhat blurry; the
sky was gray and the ground was damp. Was it heaven sighing over our six years
of friendship? Despite the damp ground, we continued to walk, for ahead of us
was the long-awaited time and future. We stepped cautiously, each drop of water
on the ground resembling our friendship and memories, and we were reluctant to
trample them. Nevertheless, we pressed forward because we were walking towards
the future, towards the years to come. We reminisced for a long time, but all
that remained were the happy and beautiful memories of the past, which we
crushed under our feet, and now they were but dust, only the fragrance
remaining.
Nostalgia is difficult to let go because we fear that the beauty no longer
exists. However, now the fragrance lingers in everyone's hearts. We must step
forward towards the future, not forgetting the past, but allowing it to reside
forever in our hearts. I must strive to do this now. Letting go of the nostalgia
and sadness becomes a driving force for progress and sustains us as we continue
to walk towards a better future.
Etched in our hearts are the teachers and classmates who shed tears of
reluctance at the graduation ceremony but maintained a smile, even if it was
tearful. |
