Dear valued customers,

Full Implementation of Standard Mail come January 2006

On December 31, 2005, the extension granted by Pos Malaysia Berhad (PMB) on selected Standard Mail criteria came to an end. Effective from January 1, 2006, customers who wish to post their mail under Standard Mail category are required to abide by all Standard Mail criteria.

PMB announced the reclassification of its mail products in February this year, introducing five Standard Mail criteria to facilitate its automation process. In April 2005, PMB granted a waiver till year-end on the requirement for standard envelope colour and the required clearance zone. This was to allow the customers to use their old stocks of pre-printed envelopes.

The five criteria for Standard Mail are as follows :

Criteria Details
Weight Maximum weight : 50gm
Size Minimum size : 90mm x 140mm

Maximum size : 165mm x 250mm

Width of envelope must be equal or greater than height of envelope

Thickness Maximum thickness : 6mm
Colour White or light coloured, sealed envelope
Clearance Zone Bottom 15mm of the envelope must be left blank

The rates for Standard Mail are RMO.30 for items weighing up to 20gm and RMO.40 for items weighing between 20gm and 50gm.

Pos Malaysia will continue to accept other types of envelopes under Non-Standard Mail, Periodicals, and PosDokumen categories. Postcards, Aerogramme and Parcel Service are not affected by the reclassification.

Customers may get further information from the nearest Post Office, Mail Centre.
