Christmas is a joyous celebration that is observed by Christians
all over the world on December 25th, marking the birthday of Jesus Christ.
Although the way Christmas is celebrated may differ based on the climate, the
spirit of the holiday remains the same. This essay will describe a Christmas
celebration held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Smith in Malaysia.
The Smiths' house was gaily decorated for the occasion. Outside, green leaves
were entwined over the doors, although traditional evergreens such as holly,
fir, and pine were not available in Malaysia. Inside, the house was bright and
festive, with red paper garlands festooned on electric fans and colorful vases
of flowers and bowls of fruit and nuts on every table. In one corner of the room
stood a Christmas tree, which originally came from Germany. This local fir tree
was decorated with silver tinsel, miniature crackers, glass balls of various
colors, and cotton wool to represent snow. A shining, silvery Christmas star was
placed on top of the tree, reminiscent of the star in Bethlehem.
The Smiths were hosting a Christmas party and invited friends from both Europe
and Malaysia. The guests arrived by car or on foot, dressed in festive party
attire and each carrying a present as Christmas is a time for giving. There were
many children present, eager to see what gifts awaited them at the base of the
Christmas tree, but they were told to wait until after the celebration meal.
The dining room table was as attractive as the sitting room, with a large,
golden-brown turkey surrounded by chestnut-stuffed potatoes, a rich and fruity
plum pudding, and mince pies, nuts, fruits, and sweets for the children. Wine
was served, and there were speeches wishing everyone a happy Christmas.
After the meal, it was finally time for the children to open their gifts. There
was a gift for everyone, from a doll for Ah Lim's baby to a handbag for Mrs.
Jones and a book for Ah Chua. Laughter and thanks filled the room as guests and
hosts opened their presents.
The younger guests began to dance to the sounds of popular music, while the
younger children played with their new toys. The older guests chatted quietly,
and some of them stepped outside into the tropical night to reflect on their
childhoods in other countries and on the Christmas in Palestine nearly two
thousand years ago. Meanwhile, the young people began singing carols, filling
the air with the beautiful words of "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" and "Glory to
the Newborn King."
In conclusion, this Christmas celebration in Malaysia was a joyous and festive
gathering of friends, filled with laughter, music, and the spirit of giving.
Despite being in a different part of the world, the celebration maintained the
essence of Christmas, a time to reflect on the birth of Jesus Christ and to
spend time with loved ones. |
