The rapid increase of the world's population has been a concern for many years,
leading to what is known as population explosion. If this continues at its
current pace, experts warn that there may not be enough space on the planet by
the end of the century. With better healthcare and environmental conditions, the
number of people on earth is growing faster than the rate at which they are
dying.
This has put a strain on governments, who are responsible for providing food and
resources to the growing population. Despite advances in agriculture, food
production cannot keep up with the demand. Governments are also expected to
spend a large portion of their national revenue on social welfare activities
such as education, medical care, housing, and infrastructure. This limits the
resources available for economic growth and improvement.
To address the population issue, various methods have been suggested. These
include birth control pills, the loop, sterilization, the rhythm method, and
abortion. Birth control pills are available for women, but there are some
concerns about side effects such as blood pressure, weight gain, and cancer. The
loop is a small device inserted in the uterus that helps prevent pregnancy, but
there is some risk of complications. The rhythm method involves avoiding
conception during the fertile period of a woman's menstrual cycle, but it
requires strict self-control and is not always effective.
Sterilization, in the form of vasectomy for men and tubectomy for women, is
considered the most foolproof method. However, some men are hesitant to undergo
vasectomy because of concerns about impotence, even though medical experts say
that this is not a valid concern. Tubectomy is often done immediately after a
woman gives birth. Abortion has been legalized by many governments as a medical
termination of unwanted conception, but it raises moral questions and may
encourage pre-marital sex and immorality among young people.
Given the pros and cons of each method, sterilization appears to be the best
solution until a simpler method becomes available. As such, some governments are
making sterilization compulsory through legislation. Regardless of personal
opinions or objections, family planning is necessary to prevent humanity from
self-destruction.
